The Boltby Scar Hillfort excavation took place from 2 September to the 25 September 2009. The excavation was managed by Dominic Powlesland and his capable enthusiastic team at the Landscape Research Centre.

The excavations are being undertaken as part of the Lime & Ice project, a partnership project operating in the south-west corner of the North York Moors National Park and the northern part of the adjoining Howardian Hills AONB. The project is funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund with additional financial support from the North York Moors National Park Authority, the Howardian Hills AONB, Natural England, English Heritage and the Forestry Commission.

The project will continue until mid 2014 and incorporatesa wide array of initiatives under the Lime & Ice umbrella.
