Today we continued removing layers of strata in the main trench, the AD trench. Although we had been doing the same for a few days, today proved more difficult due to some unagreeable weather. However it was still a fun experience to discover the different layers and expose the colours, textures and circumstances surrounding each layer. Some trowled, some dug and some mattocked nearly all the way to the bottom of their trench, and the beautiful strata revealed in the sections were much talked about during the day, and everyone had different interpretations to offer. Some of them were rather entertaining interpretations, and some were genuine attempts to try and understand the site and its complexity. Prehistoric layers, medieval and bulldozer layers are not easy to piece together, we discovered.
