Glorious weather in the west

It’s been a fantastic weather day here in the North York Moors. The excavation is taking shape as Dominic and team were joined by thirty undergraduate archaeology students from the University of York today. They’ve replaced the machines of Tuesday and Wednesday with trowels and spades to begin the work ‘proper’. Dominic’s dropped me a text to say ‘splendid day, all going well, may it continue’. The students will be working tomorrow too (no wedding day fun for them) and our other fabulous volunteer brigade will be on site from next Tuesday. The excavation was such good fun (with a serious aim of course) in 2009, and I do hope and imagine it will be much the same. With so many familiar faces and a few new ones I think it will really be a great month.

I hope to update the blog with new photos every couple of days and¬†a bit of text about progress. I will also post about the aims this time in the coming few days. Later in the month they’ll be information about the public open weekend.
